CHALLENGE
4515 New Utrecht Avenue in Brooklyn is an expansive structure that once served as a movie theater before being converted for retail use throughout the latter half of the century. The developers needed to keep the structural exterior shell of the building while building six new floors within it. At Promont, we always knew it was going to be a challenge, but how big of a challenge was surprising even to us.
APPROACH
As soon as we realized how difficult of an execution the original design was going to be, we went to work with the design team to redesign the plans, making sure that the desired product can actually be built. After the redesign, we set out to build the building in three quadrants in order that the exterior facade structure can always be properly supported. In the end we delivered a building that speaks for itself.
